Course / Does Egg Donation Work?
IVF with donor eggs offers significantly higher success rates compared to traditional IVF using a woman’s own eggs, especially for women over 40. On average, each donor egg IVF cycle results in a live birth 40%–70% of the time, based on data from fertility clinics across the United States, Spain, and Peru. These figures highlight the reliability and effectiveness of donor egg treatment.
In contrast, women over the age of 42 using their own eggs experience far lower success rates. According to national data from the U.K., published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), donor egg IVF can be 5 to 8 times more successful than standard IVF in this age group. The superior success of donor egg IVF is largely due to the use of eggs from young, healthy donors, which significantly improves embryo quality and pregnancy outcomes.
